After the longest race of the NASCAR season, the Cup Series heads to one of the most unique tracks on the circuit for the Pocono 400.
There’s no other path in NASCAR quite like Pocono Raceway. The 2.5-mile asphalt course in Pennsylvania includes three turns with differing degrees of banking and long straightaways. Dubbed the Tricky Triangle, the track’s length and relatively flat design is the most similar to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
When handicapping Sunday’s race (1 p.m. CT, FS1), bear in mind large horsepower teams do well in Pocono. Drivers who’ve been successful at Michigan and Fontana’s 2-mile track also often have success at Pocono.
MORE: NASCAR team-by-team breakdown at mark of season It may have taken Kyle Busch a little time to earn that first success at Pocono, but he’s clearly on course now. Busch is the betting favorite at 3/1 chances at the Westgate SuperBook, and his Pocono wins have come in the three latest races at the monitor. He has led 262 laps in the last seven starts there and enters Sunday’s event with top-10 finishes in 12 of the season’s 13 races.
Pocono rules package In accordance with NASACR, Pocono’s race will comprise the 2019 rules bundle with a tapered-spacer engine that will generate about 550 horsepower. The cars will probably have aero ducts, an alteration that NASCAR made after viewing the non-duct package at Atlanta earlier this year.
The previous six 550-horsepower races occurred at the five 1.5-mile paths of Atlanta, Las Vegas, Texas, Kansas and Charlotte, in addition to Fontana’s 2-mile oval.
